One Small Step for me, One Giant Leap for Future me

The Challenge of Getting Started

Recently I challenged myself to write an article a day for 30 days. It’s going well; I’ve only missed one day so far and I’ll write an extra one to make up for it, but the whole reason I’m doing this is to push myself.

For the longest time I’ve had these phrases in my head:

I’ll get there one day.

One day I’ll have time to look into it more.

But recently I’ve discovered the key ingredient missing from my whole plan for life:

Lower your expectations for your own work.

This desire that I’ve had, this untapped potential, this unstretched rubber band of possibility and the whole reason I’ve never been able to begin to pursue it is because I don’t have the strength to stretch it as far as I want yet, so I haven’t even bothered trying.

Thus begins the process of getting strong. It’s going to take a while before I’m truly happy with my work. It’s going to be pretty interesting in the future, looking back on my early work. But I know that if I don’t start with the small things, I’ll never be able to achieve the big things.

I have so many passions I want to share with others, and my life goal is to help other’s chase their own passions, whether personally or professionally. So this is the start. The start of little things, small steps, which will one day turn into a fountain of enthusiasm and encouragement for others who also desire to chase their own passions.
